Installing Windows on VMware Player using Easy Install feature which is used to perform an unnatented installation of a guest operating system uses a floppy drive image to do the whole installation progress automatically.
After the guest operating system installation is finished and you try to install the VMware Tools you are getting the following error: “VMWare Tools installation cannot be started manually while the easy install is in progress”.
In order to solve this error message we will have to unmount the virtual floppy drive image that was used to do the setup in the Virtual Machine Settings.
How To:
1. Go to Virtual Machine -> Virtual Machine Settings (Ctrl + D)
2. Select Floppy
3. Select Use physical drive and set it to Autodetect. Press OK
4. Go to Virtual Machine -> Install VMware Tools..
